Calument Theater

Calument Theater

Built around 1900 during the copper boom at the Keweenaw Peninsula, the Calumet Theater is believed to be haunted by several ghosts!

Legend has it that a murder took place there in 1903.  Since then the apparition of a young girl has been reported, as well as eerie screams through the theater.

The most popular story revolves around a famous actress of the early 1900's.  In 1958, during a live performance, a young actress forgot her lines.  As she looked up, an apparition believed to be deceased actress Helen Modjeska appeared and begun to feed her the lines.  Modjeska, who had performed at the theater when living, has been spotted several times since this incident.
